‘79 Fiesta from York, Pennsylvania

I am attaching a photo of my ‘79 Fiesta from York, Pennsylvania. Following is a brief write-up of the car.
THE CAR: White, Yellow, Red and Black. D Street Prepared Autocross Car
Owners: Mike & Jim Snyder
This car started life as a 1979 Sport Model featuring factory sunroof (both metal and glass panels), vent windows, boosted brakes and all normal Sport group options. I bought it for $75 with a locked motor and two small rust spots. It had 79K miles on the clock. It now has 106K miles on it (still a baby!) with about 10K miles on a fresh motor. Factory accessories which were added include a right side mirror and Ghia door panels with map pockets.
Modifications:
Engine: 0.030 over stock pistons, balanced internal components, high pressure oil pump, baffled oil pan, flywheel lightened by five pounds, intake & exhaust ports matched to manifolds and no emission controls.
Induction: Twin 2bbl 40mm throttle bodies, Weber DCOE manifold and Haltech programmable multi-point fuel injection.
Ignition: Bosch full advance electric distributor, Ford Motorsports MSD module and coil with rev-limiter (set at 6600RPM) Magnacore wires and NGK plugs.
Exhaust: Jahnspeed 4-2-1 header that is JetHot coated and a 2″ pipe to a SuperTrapp muffler.
Clutch: Fiesta XR2
Transmission: Quaife (locking type) differential, Red Line MTL oil and updated with a 1980 shift linkage.
Suspension: Koni shocks/struts, Polyurethane bushings all around, Forparts front springs 180 pounds; 1 1/2″ lower, stock rear springs cut 3 1/2 coils, Ford RS 19mm rear sway bar, front and rear adjustable shock tower stress bars and BAT front race hubs.
Wheels: For the street: GB 13 X 6 alloys. For racing: Panasport 13 X 7 alloys
Tires: For the street: BFGoodrich Comp T/A’s, HR4 185/55 HR13’s. For racing: Hoosier A3S02 225/50 ZR13’s
Brakes: Ferodo street pads
Safety Equipment: Safety Devices roll bar, Simpson harnesses (both seats) and a Halon fire extinguisher.
Other Mods: Kamei air dam, Hella H-4 headlights, European grille and tail lights, RWS seats, Momo steering wheel and shift knob, Autometer temperature and oil pressure gauges, engine torque brace, Haltech mixture
meter, battery relocated to trunk area, all steel custom fender flares and wheel studs replacing the bolts.
My Dad and I are planning to get a lighter flywheel, raise the rear suspension slightly and have someone tune the fuel injection properly on a dyno this winter. After competing in Fiesta’s for nine years on a local
level and four trips to the SCCA Nationals, we’re getting more competitive all the time. The handling is incredible with so much rubber, but we still lack a bit of acceleration. As an interesting note, the car was featured in the JAN/FEB 1996 issue of Grassroots Motorsports magazine (you may have seen it; the article was entitled VIVA FIESTA ! ) I can however say that all specifications are subject to change. We’re still developing the car!
