BMW Z3 Coupe
In 1999, the BMW Z3 coupe was on the market. Assembly of this updated Z3 began in the late 1998. Many in the Z3 community saw this as a change from the original sleak design of the Z3. Many saw this model as losing some of the magic of the styling of the older cabrio version.
The Coupe was fitted with a 2.8-liter engine. The Coupe had a hatchback design which made the Z3 look more versatile however the awkward looking rear did not enamour it to the public. It was this change from the original that made the Z3 community think that it was almost smearing the reputation of the beautiful Z3. It must be said however that the new design did find some support from minority of the Z3 drivers.
One of the big enhancements of the Coupe was its side airbags. The side airbags were included as standard in all Coupes. Other changes included stability control and other minor cosmetics changes.
BMW listened to their customers thoughts in 2001 and redesigned the rear end of the coupe to make it more visually appealing. The change came in the form of a facelift for the rear wheel arches. In 2001, the 2.8 litre Coupe became the 3.0 litre convertible.
